In this photo collection, I explore the concepts of good and evil, specifically the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, lust, gluttony, envy, wrath, and sloth. While traditionally seen as rare moral failings, these sins may be more common today. Each image aims to evoke strong feelings about our surroundings.
I reflected on what right and wrong mean in my life and work. Pride evokes ego and placing oneself above others, which I may do when capturing a frame. Does greed drive my desire for more equipment or perfect shots? Is it lust that leads me to endlessly chase the perfect image? Perhaps gluttony compels me to take shot after shot, never satisfied. Does envy make me resentful when the moment doesn’t appear as I envisioned? Is wrath harmful, forcing my vision over nature, while sloth keeps me isolated, avoiding other needed work?
We might consider that sin doesn’t just bring suffering but can also yield meaningful and forgivable images. As you view this series on the seven deadly sins, reflect on how these themes appear in your life and photography.
